Summary
SS&C needed to modernize one of its most powerful internal platforms—a legacy, on-premise application used by institutional clients for analyzing large-scale financial data. Despite its capabilities, the product suffered from outdated UI, fragmented workflows, and poor data visualization.
I led the end-to-end redesign of the platform—conducting discovery interviews, streamlining user flows, and reimagining the visual and interaction model to meet modern SaaS expectations.
The result was a full product transformation in under 9 months: a unified, intuitive interface that led to a 32% increase in client retention and a 20% YoY rise in platform engagement. The new design helped reposition Workspace Analyzer as a strategic, scalable SaaS offering—earning internal recognition as a flagship success story within SS&C.
Project Overview
Workspace Analyzer is a data-rich platform used by financial professionals to identify risk, exposure, and portfolio breakdowns. The tool was powerful—but its interface was dated, complex, and misaligned with modern expectations.
My Role
Lead Product Designer — overseeing research, UX strategy, UI design, and visual system development. I collaborated closely with product owners, developers, and executive stakeholders throughout the engagement.
The Challenge
Outdated UI
Built on a legacy framework from the early 2000s, with clunky navigation and dated visuals.
Inconsistent Experience
Years of piecemeal updates had created a fractured user flow and non-standardized interactions.
Hard-to-Digest Visuals
Critical financial data lacked clarity, customization, and intuitive visualization.
Accessibility & Scalability
The product needed to scale across personas and meet modern accessibility standards.
Discovery + Research
To understand what worked (and what didn’t), I facilitated interviews and product audits with:
Institutional clients
Internal product teams
Frontline users across various departments
Key insights included:
Users wanted fewer steps to access key reports
The experience felt overwhelming and inconsistent
Data customization was essential, but hard to use
Stakeholders were concerned with retention and visual quality compared to competitors
Strategy + Design Approach
Unified Information Architecture
We restructured the product’s IA from the ground up—simplifying the navigation, reducing cognitive load, and aligning content by task and goal rather than legacy groupings.
Modernized Data Visualization
I led the design of new charts, tables, and filter mechanisms that allowed users to:
Customize datasets in real-time
Quickly compare key metrics
Drill down without breaking flow
This gave analysts faster paths to insights—and made the tool usable by a broader audience.
Accessibility & Scalability
We implemented a scalable design system using WCAG-compliant color tokens, keyboard-navigation support, and component patterns that worked across varying data densities.
Iterative Collaboration
Design was delivered in tight weekly loops with feedback from dev leads, product owners, and senior execs—ensuring every piece was both feasible and aligned with business priorities.
Outcome + Impact
In just 9 months, we launched a complete redesign that transformed Workspace Analyzer into a modern SaaS experience, ready for scale and enterprise sales.
Key Results:
+32% Client Retention — A sharp improvement year-over-year, directly tied to usability and visual improvements.
+20% Platform Engagement — Increased usage across all major workflows and report tools.
Internal Recognition — Positioned internally as a model project for future product modernization efforts.
The redesign not only modernized the user experience—it directly impacted SS&C’s bottom line, helping solidify Workspace Analyzer’s role in their evolving product ecosystem.
